Katrina O’Kane
Katrina is a musician, songwriter, DJ, producer, craftswoman and founder of KIN events, which is in its 3rd year, supporting original music and visual artistic collaborations. Originally from Belfast, with roots in electronic music . She performed regularly on the electronic music circuit in the North which eventually led her to learning about Sound therapy and working occasionally as an assistant sound therapist with the Sound Healing Spa before she left Belfast, deepening her understanding, love and connection with sound. She has been based in West Cork now for just over a decade and has found a wealth of inspiration and experience in the landscapes and people here.
After her mother’s passing in 2012 she made the move to West Cork—a place they had both dreamed of calling home since visiting in her childhood. There, she spent two years with a teacher who helped her navigate grief and repressed emotions. In the process, she was surprised to unlock and discover her own singing voice which she had barely expressed since childhood.
Embracing this newfound passion, she turned to singing and songwriting, not long after she founded a six piece jazz, funk, neo soul band ‘The Bella Coola’ , that gigged around west cork from 2019-2022. The passion and inspiration from the local music scene and the songwriters she was meeting along the way lead to the creation of Kin in 2023—a concert series at Arundels by the pier in idyllic Ahakista, a project dedicated to showcasing original music & art.
Katrina now writes and performs solo with a Boss RC-505 loop pedal, electric guitar, effects, and percussion, ‘weaving intricate tapestries of sound and rhythm beneath haunting, melodic vocals.’
