Born to Perform is a grassroots youth music movement that’s quickly becoming the “musical tribe” West Cork didn’t know it was missing. Started in 2025 by Julie O’Mahony and Mary Walsh, the group was born from a simple realization: while our corner of the world has plenty of pitches for GAA, it needed a “youth club” for the kids who’d rather pick up a plectrum than a sliotar. Now operating under Foróige, the group has exploded from four members to over 26 talented teens.

This year, for Cruinniú na nÓg, Born to Perform is leveling up. They’ve partnered with The Listening Project—the team who have turned the Skibbereen Town Hall into a high-fidelity sanctuary for music lovers—to host a massive, free public concert. in the heart of the town. Forget the image of a shy school recital. This is a full-blown professional production. Here is what’s going down:

The Talent: Our local youth ensembles will open the night, showcasing everything from delicate keys to Metallica-inspired electric guitar riffs.The Headliner: Local legends Mango Moon will take the stage, bringing their signature 7-piece blend of Reggae, Dub, and Ska to keep the energy high.

The Square Social: During the interval, the party moves outside to the Town Square for acoustic busking and a chance for parents and neighbors to mix in a relaxed, festival-style atmosphere. More Than Just a Gig…Join the Tribe

The Listening Project was founded on the idea of “active listening”—creating a space where the music is the focus, not the background noise. On Cruinniú na nÓg, we’re applying that same respect to our youngest performers. Let’s show them that West Cork is listening!
