This page is dedicated to the array of singing projects which I am involved with, including the Community Choir. When ever I can, I support and organise workshops, performances and events with visiting voice facilitators and choirs. I am a member of The Natural Voice Network based in the UK, and the Association of Irish Choirs here in Ireland and I try to support and encourage collaborations where possible.
My West Cork BIG SING! project has it’s own page as it is an on-going project with quite far reaching aims and activities promoting singing for community wellbeing and has engaged with many community organisations, groups and individuals to date. Please visit the project there to keep up with the latest news.
Feature piece: GraceNotes Vocal Performance Project
GraceNotes Vocal Performance Project began in 2016 when I was asked to contribute to a fundraising event for a Kinsale based community project scheduled to take place around the same time as the Kinsale Jazz Festival. Although the initial idea was to invite my choirs to participate and run some public workshops to feed into the event, I soon realised that many others who I have sang with in the area would love to work with the Jazz theme and get the opportunity to perform with me. So I created a project who’s main objective was to work A-capella singing to a high standard and bring forward into performance.
The first GraceNotes project began working with the flavour of Contemporary Jazz and has since also run a second term, inviting more members and building on the same set of songs to perform at various events at the Ballydehob Jazz Festival on the May Bank Holiday 2017. I have to extend my gratitude for such a wonderful group of singers to work with and help to bring this project into reality.
The Project on-going intends to offer opportunities for experienced singers to build on their vocal ability and performance skills through a series of workshops culminating with exciting performance opportunities…..in a fun and dynamic way working alongside others. Members join on a project / termly basis with monthly rehearsals at weekends.
You can watch the video of the Contemporary Jazz set as performed in The Venue, O’Donovans Hotel, Clonakilty in May 2017 here – many thanks to Phil Bergin and ClonaTeeVee:
The current project is based in West Cork and operates from Clonakilty. Keep an eye out for updates on new upcoming projects covering different styles and genres and taking out performance work into various locations.
If you would like to discuss the possibility of a project or performance at an event in your community then get in touch. Projects are designed to suit both the interested singers and the festivals and events proposed.
