Ballydehob Community Band

This group is for adults who are looking to improve and build on skills, confidence and experience through playing with others. We base our learning on a wide variety of songs and styles, and welcome a wide variety of instruments. We meet weekly on Mondays from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Here are some of the characteristics of our group and how we learn and play together:

We explore various dynamics in music, experiment with combinations and sounds, and are generally very creative about trying things out! Many of us would love to feel more confident around improvisation and being able to ‘jam’ with others, so we also practice this through different approaches.

We offer encouragement and mutual support toward each other at all times, and work both collaboratively and individually towards overcoming any challenges and reaching our goals, creating an environment of support, connection and friendship.

We creatively find ways to involve the variety of instruments brought in to the space, and enjoy incorporating instruments from other cultures, and the more unusual. We learn a wide variety of styles and songs, often creating our own original versions.

We love to bring our music out into the community, especially contributing to local festivals and events. Occasionally we go on fun musical trips together, meeting other musicians in a variety of environments. Sometimes we accompany Caz as a ‘house band’ for her Harmony Singing Workshops. These events regularly close with an ‘open’ music session.

We currently have a few spaces available, so get in touch if you are interested.
