Regular Choirs and Groups in West Cork

Acapellabella Community Choir meet in Schull from 7.30-9.30pm on Thursdays. This is an all female choir, working with a variety of styles and genres, and is open to new members on-going. Previous experience is not necessary. Occasionally there are opportunities to get involved with projects and performances – all of which are optional. Cost E10/E12 per session.

Ballydehob Community Band is a weekly group for those who have a basic understanding of their instrument, and supports the building of confidence and skills when playing alongside others. The group enjoy opportunities for performing in the local community, sometimes alongside my choir. I also create one-off Workshops – often open to the public – to dedicate further time on themes such as: improvisation and arranging/finding our roles in the music.

Vocal Performance Group is a ‘high – value, next – level’ harmony singing coaching group for women who are ready to be stretched and to move their singing experience into the next level! Two more groups are envisioned for Kenmare and Cork Cork City, and is part of a new project currently being developed which will bring additional Workshops and Events into the wider public.

This group is for women who love Harmony Singing, and are excited about the idea of taking it to another level of commitment. It is designed to stretch you beyond the community choir, to open up opportunities to explore new territory, and to work alongside musicians and professionals with expertise in their field.

Singing in Schools

It has been a pleasure to be invited in leading the Scoil Mhuire NS in Schull this year, and I am thoroughly enjoying meeting and working with the children there. I am working with all classes, sometimes including the use of hand held percussion instruments and kazoos, and body percussion rhythms. As well as leading School Choirs on-going, I am also working with other schools in the area bring a cluster of workshops for shorter duration’s. Some of these schools are part of the Creative Schools Scheme.

Creative Songwriting and Arranging Supports Over the past 5 years or so I have been writing alot more songs, which I love doing! I have a fantastic 7 piece band called Mango Moon based in West Cork, playing Reggae, Dub and Ska, with the larger part of the set being my own original work. Such a fun group of people and instruments to work with, with lots of lovely female harmonies and a big brass sound. You can check them out here: https://www.instagram.com/mangomoonmusic?igsh=MXM5OWJzcnR0cGtjbg==

I also bring a strong element of original music creation into many of my projects; including my choir work and the Community Band, as well as now starting to offer coaching in songwriting for individuals and small groups.
