Here’s a wee taster of what we did for the Festival….Enjoy! Thanks to Phil at Feile Africa for putting the video together.
What I really love about the summer is the opportunities I get to bring my music out into different locations…and especially those on the coast! I just love being by the sea!
On Saturday 10th August I am returning to Castletownbere, and this time bring my Family Music Workshop along with a Harmony Singing one. Both of the workshops will take place in Castletownbere Library and are FREE! You can book your places by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone to: 027 70233.
The Family Music Workshop will be held from 2-3pm and is for parents and children aged between 4-10 years. This is a fun opportunity to build confidence and learn musical skills together. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and all adults are expected to join in!!
The Harmony Singing Workshop will run from 4.30-6pm and is for all adults and youth who love to sing! We will learn a varied selection of harmony-filled songs, all taught with a ‘call and response’ approach, so no previous experience or music reading skills are needed to join in.
On Wednesday 24th July, I’ll be bringing two Music Workshops into the community of Youghal. This will be my first visit with my music and I’m really excited about meeting new people to share with.
From 1-2pm there will be a Family Music Workshop held in the Methodist Hall on Friar Street. This workshop is aimed at parents and children between 4-10 years old, and is designed as a fun learning opportunity for building confidence and developing musical skills together. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and all adults are expected to join in with the activities! An entrance fee of E5 per person is being asked to help cover expenses.
From 4-6pm, I’ll be leading a Harmony Singing Workshop in Celtic Folk Song. This is part of the programme organised by the Youghal Creative Cultural Pop Up Shop running from 114, North Main Street over the months of July and August. Adults and young people who love to sing are welcome to come along and enjoy learning these harmony-filled songs in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. No previous experience or ability to read music is needed as I teach with a ‘call and response’ approach, making it easy for everyone to join in. This workshop is free of charge.
For this years’ Ballydehob Jazz Festival I will be leading a workshop to create a Pop-Up Jazz Choir to take out onto the streets before the parade begins on Sunday 5th May. The workshop is open to all and will be from 3-4pm….so come along and join us! Then we will go out onto the streets to have some fun singing our songs ‘Pop-Up’ style in different spots up and down the village. More information can be found nearer the time via the website: www.ballydehobjazzfestival.org

This group was something of an experiment for me. A few local singers had said to me that they would love an opportunity to do something together with their children and that a combined singing group would be great fun. So we gave it a go and ran it between September-November from the Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff. I have to say it was a really lovely group and a great thing to do. We hope to start the group up again after the Easter holidays 2019. Get in touch if you’d like to be a part of it!
Just back from a leading two workshops in new areas over in East Anglia….Colchester and Weybourne – on the North Norfolk coast. The Christmas season has begun!!!
Delighted that Niki Bee is coming over to visit from Spain and bringing her wonderful creative energy with her. Niki is an artist who weaves songwriting, dance, beats, voice and guitar with spontaneity and flare! On this visit she will be leading a Flamenco Dance Workshop during the afternoon and performing some of her original songs and dance in the evening….following a session of wine tasting and tapas! I shall also be joining her with some of my own songs in the evening. Promising to be a lovely day out altogether!!
Recently I was approached about starting a choir in Glengarriff. So we decided to set up three sessions to see who we may attract!
